OUR

Story

Arun and I first met when I was twelve….yes twelve! It was during the annual bengali weekend , the weekend where the entire bengali community gathers for the Bengali Durga Puja event (An Indian annual weekend of celebrations kind of like christmas!) We met for a couple of days in a row and after a year again at a common friends place. We were young and shy but I can still remember hanging out with him, not really knowing what to say!

Years and years passed and thanks to the good old online social media … our paths crossed again! We met but it was online this time around thanksgiving (October) of 2014. It was a week before I was leaving Toronto for a long international trip! But we hit it off over email which then led to chatting and loads of it. We instantly clicked even after so many years and were always in touch and it was terrific. I couldn’t wait to meet him in person again!

Finally, I was back in Toronto in the first week of March 2015 and we met! Our first official date was on March 12, 2015 and we spent over 8 hours on our first date! ….since then its been just been wonderful . Time flew and before we knew it was christmas. Our first christmas was special and we got a chance to meet our families and become a part of them. By then I was sure that he was the person I could not imagine my life without!

Sometimes, life has a funny way of working out.

Our journey started when I was 14 years old attending an annual cultural event, Durga Puja.  This was a Bengali’s version of Christmas.  It was then that I was introduced to Koel through a mutual family friend.  I quickly felt comfortable talking to her; we went on a long walk talking about seemingly everything.  This was odd for me since I was a pretty shy kid!  I knew then there was something special about Koel; her warm, caring, selfless nature that I would come to know better later in life.

We had reconnected in October 2014, just as Koel was leaving for India for 4 months.  We stayed connected during the entire time, chatting early mornings and late nights with our bond growing stronger with each conversation.  I couldn’t wait for her to finally come back to Toronto.  When she returned last March, I connected the dots that this was the sweet, charming little girl I had met some 25 years ago!  Over the past year, my love for her grew as we reconnected, and I knew that this was the woman for me.  It culminated when I mustered up the courage to ask her to marry me this past March.  I was over the moon when she said yes!

I am humbled to have Koel as my wife.   I’m excited to continue our journey together, and spend the rest of my life with her by my side.

Soon enough it was March, we were discussing trying to get away somewhere together but couldn’t think where . Arun took it in his hands to plan a quick getaway for us. It was magical and it was perfect. A much needed break together at a wonderful resort in Mexico. Our second night there, Arun planned a surprise evening for us …I had no idea what he planned . As the evening progressed I realized it was a special dinner for two on the beach overlooking the  ocean during sunset and little did I know that this was just the start of the surprises in store for me! We were enjoying our candle lit dinner watching the waves when a photographer showed up and suggested we talk a few photos. We had fun posing away and as soon as she was about to leave, Arun said he has one more pose . And with much surprise, he got down on his knew and popped the question!I was in shock but truly the happiest person in the universe. It was one of the best moments of my life from that day its been so special. We are so lucky to have been able to capture our beautiful moment on film!

I am so happy to have reunited with Arun after so many years and to spend the rest of my life with him.
